School Readiness and Standards

My Big World helps your students get ready for kindergarten and beyond. Always developmentally appropriate, our magazine supports skills pre-K kids need, as well as state and national standards.

Which standards and skills does My Big World support?

My Big World has correlations to the following standards. Don't worry if you don't see your state standards listed; we cover skills that are universal to pre-K standards across the nation.

                • School Readiness and Common Core (CCSS)

                • Texas and Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Standards

                • Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-R)

                • Head Start Early Learning Framework

                • New York Pre-K Standards

                • Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards

Where can I find PDFs giving detailed information about standards and skills in My Big World?

Log onto the My Big World website. Then look at the bottom right-hand corner of the homepage. It’s right there! Click on any set of standards to see a detailed PDF. You can also find a link at the bottom of the page.

Where can I learn which essential pre-K skills are covered in a particular issue?

You can find them online, and in the printed Teacher’s Guide that comes with your issues.

Online: Go to the My Big World homepage. Go to the issue you want. Click on it.

You’ll come to a page devoted to that particular issue. Scroll down to the bottom of that page. You’ll find skills covered in that issue.

You can also find skills for each issue by going to the top right corner of that webpage. Under resources, click on “Lesson Plan.”

You’ll find the lesson plan for this issue. Skills are listed at the top of the page. Plus, each activity described has a note at the bottom highlighting what children will learn.

You can also click on “Teacher’s Guide,” which you’ll find right under “Lesson Plan.”

If you scroll down to the second page of the Teacher’s Guide, you will find a chart that lists all the skills taught that month!

In Print: You can find the same information in the printed version of the Teacher’s Guide. You receive this every month with your issues of the magazine. You’ll find the same pages there with the same information!
